The IGNITE stage is a special venue at the entrance of the 2017 Global Platform conference centre where selected participants are allowed 15 minutes to present a disaster risk reduction topic, project or initiative. Its aim is to widen the array of topics that are discussed at the Global Platform beyond those presented in the main sessions and events.
ICoE-CCOUC delivered two presentations. The details are as follows:
The presentation described how academic units are well-placed to facilitate capacity building activities to train the next generation of DRR researchers and field-based practitioners. This presentation highlighted the success stories of former trainees who have gone onto make significant impact in the DRR and humanitarian fields
- “Enabling Evidence for Effectiveness: Developing Health-DRR Research Partnerships for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework”
This presentation used a talk-show format to show how collaborative and multi-sectoral groups can support the implementation of the Sendai Framework in the health-DRR-evidence nexus. It emphasized the importance of health in DRR, as well as the need to build scientific capacity and to engage all stakeholders.
