Save the Date: 2024 IRDR International Conference - Science for an Inclusive, Safe, and Sustainable World: Actions of IRDR Global Community

The 2024 IRDR International Conference is set to take place from October 22 to 23 in Beijing, China, under the theme “Science for an Inclusive, Safe, and Sustainable World: Actions of IRDR Global Community. This event will be a gathering of IRDR global community to share their knowledge and insights regarding the action plan of 2025-2027 and the development of the risk science based on the “Framework for Global Science in Support of Risk-informed Sustainable Development and Planetary Health”.

The conference aims to announce the new phase of IRDR with renewed missions, which is to mobilize science for the reduction of all types of disaster risk; building resilience and reducing vulnerability by integrating risk science with climate change adaptation and mitigation; and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The missions echos the mid-term review recommendations, and target toward IRDR’s new vision on ushering in an inclusive, safe and sustainable world by promoting a better understanding of disaster risk and effective use of risk science in decision-making.

The expected outcomes of the 2024 IRDR Conference will contribute to the 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum and the 2025 Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Professor Zhang Renhe, Director of the IRDR International Centre of Excellence (ICoE) at Fudan, has been honored with the Sverdrup Gold Medal for his fundamental contributions to understanding Asian monsoon variability in connection with ocean-atmosphere interactions in the Northwest Pacific and coupled modes such as ENSO.
