UNESCO, IRDR, Tsinghua University and other institutions jointly launched the "Youth Climate Action and Disaster Risk Reduction Innovation Activity", with strong support from the China Youth Development Foundation and Mercedes-Benz Star Fund, the "Youth Climate Action and Disaster Risk Reduction Innovation Activity" has run successfully for three sessions from 2023 to 2025. Aiming to empower youth to address climate change and disaster risk reduction, the activity has mobilized over 200,000 young people nationwide, gathering scientific, innovative and feasible outstanding projects that have gained international recognition.
The activity’s case report collects more than 100 youth innovation works, featuring distinct characteristics:
Diverse project types: Covering scientific inventions, technical solutions, policy recommendations and youth action plans.
Extensive thematic areas: Involving agricultural emission reduction and carbon sequestration, ecosystem restoration, intelligent disaster prevention, green community construction, AI application in climate action, etc.
Innovative integration: Combining advanced technologies like AI, blockchain and IoT with traditional wisdom, and emphasizing interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaboration.
Practical orientation: Translating creative ideas into tangible actions, with some projects already applied in real scenarios such as urban greening and disaster early warning.
The activity builds a cross-border innovation platform for young people, links classroom knowledge with real-world needs, and showcases the wisdom and responsibility of Chinese youth in global climate governance, contributing significantly to sustainable development.
