About IRDR Pilot Studies

IRDR Pilot Studies (PS) are one of the main forms of IRDR research. An IRDR PS is designed to address one research priority of “A Framework for Global Science in Support of Risk-informed Sustainable Development and Planetary Health”. IRDR Pilot Studies focus on thematic and technical DRR issues. The timeframe of each PS will be 12-18 months.


Completed IRDR Pilot Studies:

  • ‘Impact of Landslide Movement Processes on Major Infrastructures in the Perennial Permafrost Degradation Zone of the Northwest Section of the Xiaoxinganling Mountains’, conducted by Northeast Forestry University

  • ‘Emergency Management Knowledge Production Mechanisms for Uncertainty Risks - Based on the Science-Policy-Society Co-evolution Framework’, conducted by Beijing Normal University

  • ‘Open Science and Technology Cloud for Disaster Risk Reduction’, conducted by CODATA Global Open Science Cloud Programme (GOSC)

  • ‘Governance Approaches for Climate Change-Induced Health Risks' and 'Temporal and Spatial Disparities in Climate-Health Research: A Bibliometric Analysis', conducted by IRDR ICoE on Risk Interconnectivity and Governance on Weather/Climate Extremes Impact and Public Health

  • 'Ecological Safety Assessment Study of the Selenge River Basin in the Mongolian Plateau', conducted by the Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service Sub-Platform of International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST DRRKS)

  • Current Status and Future Development of Digital Industry in Disaster Risk Reduction in Sichuan Province’, conducted by Institution of New Economic Development


IPO New Pilot Study:

  • ‘Sustainable Development Scientific Satellite-1 (SDGSAT-1) for Disaster Risk Reduction and Global Emergency Response’, conducted by International Research Center for Big Data for Sustainable Development (CBAS)

  • ‘Disaster Reduction Education and Youth Empowerment Based on the New Framework of Global Risk Science Research’, conducted by Sichuan University-Hong Kong Polytechnic University Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction

  • ‘Research on Fundamental Theory of Comprehensive Risk of Natural Disasters and Development of Standard for Risk-informed Territorial Zonation’, funded by the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China.
