5th Digital Earth Summit in Japan

The 5th Digital Earth Summit will take place in Nagoya, Japan from 9-11 November 2014. With the theme, ” Digital Earth for ESD (Education for Sustainable Development)”, the event aims to bring together nations and institutions to share accomplishments in applying advanced technologies and information to the goal of sustainable living on the planet.

Digital Earth technology is one of the key technologies to support ESD by visualizing complicated earth system, social system, not only for current situation but from past to future. The Digital Earth Summit is planned to happen in parallel with UNESCO’s World Conference on ESD that will be held in Nagoya, Japan from 10-12 November 2014.

Keynote speakers include Tetsuzo Yasunari, Director-General of the Research Institute for Human and Nature, National Institutes for the Humanities, Inter-University Research Institute Corporation, Jonathan Trent, OMEGA Project Scientist, Bioengineering Branch, Ames Research Center, NASA and Daniel Sui, Chair of Department of Geography, Director of Geographic Analysis Core, Institute of Population Research, The Ohio State University.

The summit is hosted by the International Digital Earth Applied Science Research Center (IDEAS), Chubu University, International Society for Digital Earth and the Digital Earth community of Japan.
