IRDR France holds workshop on climate change uncertainties
28 January 2015

AFPCN (Association Française Pour la Prevention des Catastrophes Naturelles) functions as the IRDR National Committee for France. The AFPCN Working Group “Climate Change” continues its public engagement on topics raised by the 5th report of the IPCC,  with this workshop on “Certainties and uncertainties on climate change: after the 5th IPCC report”.

With speakers such as Katia et Guy Laval from the French Academy of Sciences, as well as Valérie Masson Delmotte and Christophe Cassou, the workshop will address issues to be discussed in the run-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21): what are the latest scientific developments of note in this domain, what are the certainties and uncertainties, what should be future directions of research and experimental modeling related to climate change adaptation? These and others are questions of utmost importance for all the intergovernmental agreements that will be discussed and decided upon in 2015.

The presentations will open discussion on the risks of climate change, management, track future research and expertise. It will also focus in particular on how the knowledge on the climate system on a global scale can be structured to address the issue of adaptation to the regional level.

IRDR in its interventions during the negotiations leading up to the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk reduction had always emphasized the need to better integrate approaches to DRR as critical tools to advance climate change adaptation.
