IRDR and Horizon Co-launched a Learning Camp for DRR

This project is co-organized by Integrated Research on Disaster Risk and Horizon Global Youth Development and it contains a learning camp, an SDG Hack Marathon and an innovation solution competition. A total number of 130 students from top-tier universities in China and young professionals have registered for participation in this project.

The learning camp contains over 30 lectures. They are selected and organized to introduce the concept and practices of risk-informed sustainable development and new development on climate actions, and to promote among students about the interdisciplinary approaches in research and innovation for disaster risk reduction.

Prof. Qunli Han, Executive Director of IRDR-IPO and Ms. Fang Lian, Science Officer of IRDR-IPO gave lectures on the topics of “Introduction on Disaster Risk Reduction and Development Safety” and “Innovative Cases of Youth Participation in DDR and Reflection” respectively.

        Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director and UNESCO Representative to the People’s Republic of China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and the Republic of Korea

  • Space technology contributes to the sustainable development of IDAs

        Prof. Bihong Fu, Deputy Director International Center on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage under the auspices of UNESCO

  • Public Health Safety and Well-being -- Application of Digital Technology

        Ms. Shan Xu Director, WHO Collaborating Centre for Digital Health.

  • Building Psychological Resilience in Response to Disasters

        Ms. Xinni Wei Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Psychology, Tsinghua University

  • Climate Change and the Rise of Poverty

        Dr. Lu Zheng, Associate Professor, School of Sociology, Tsinghua University

IPO will put on line the results of the SDG HACK Marathon and Innovation Competition once the project is wrapped up in March 2023.

IRDR proudly celebrates the successful conclusion of the 2025 Youth Climate Action and Disaster Risk Reduction Hackathon, held in Beijing under the theme “Empowering Youth for a Healthy Planet.” Co-organized with UNESCO, the Horizon Global Youth Development Program and other partners, the event brought together over 300 young innovators from 15 countries to co-develop solutions to urgent environmental challenges.

IRDR commends the successful conclusion of Fudan University's second International Summer School on Climate Change and Related Risks. Supported by IRDR in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the MAP-AQ programme, the three-week flagship program brought together nearly 80 participants from 16 countries, fostering a dynamic global learning community under the theme “Human Activity and Weather/Climate Extremes.”

UNESCO and IRDR co-organise this lumos at UTC 8:00 on 18 August, which will reflect the research and innovations from young generations with the topics including but not limited (1) vulnerability assessment of cultural heritages (tangible and intangible), (2) integrating traditional knowledge and advanced technologies for climate change adaption and disaster risk reduction, and (3) the role of culture in climate action through education, grassroots initiatives, and policy engagement.
