IRDR ICoE  Risk Interconnectivity and Governance on Weather/Climate Extremes Impact and Public Health, in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Monitoring, Analysis, and Prediction of Air Quality International Research Program (MAP-AQ), and the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), is pleased to announce the 2025 International Summer School Program focusing on "Human Activity and Weather/Climate Extremes." This intensive three-week program addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our time - the escalating frequency and severity of extreme weather events linked to human-induced climate change.

The program offers a unique interdisciplinary curriculum featuring four core modules that examine: (1) the science of weather and climate extremes under global warming, (2) human influences including greenhouse gas emissions and urbanization, (3) complex land-ocean-atmosphere interactions, and (4) practical risk management and adaptation strategies. Through a combination of lectures by world-renowned experts, interactive discussions, and collaborative mini-projects, participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address climate challenges.

The program welcomes applications from students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career professionals (those who obtained a Ph.D. within the past five years) with backgrounds in atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, climate governance, or related disciplines. Between 100 and 200 outstanding applicants from around the world will be selected to participate. All applicants must be proficient in English.

While there are no tuition fees, participants are responsible for their travel, accommodation, and living expenses, with limited scholarships available for international attendees. A limited number of scholarships are available to international participants, which may cover international economy-class airfare, accommodation, and meals.

Applications are now open. The scholarship application deadline is April 20, 2025, with final applications due by May 31, 2025. This prestigious program represents an exceptional opportunity for emerging scholars to engage with cutting-edge climate science while building valuable international networks. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early through the online portal.
