Members of the IRDR community are invited t, co-hosted by the South African Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and UNESCO. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00 (SAST).

Workshop Highlights

• Focus: The workshop aims to strengthen the application of science, technology, and innovation (ST&I) in DRR. It will facilitate knowledge exchange, enhance collaboration, and identify opportunities for strengthening national and regional capacities.

• Key Themes: Discussions will cover the G20 DRR Working Group deliverables, the SADC Disaster Risk Management Strategy, and practical applications of ST&I. This includes presentations on flood risk intelligence, early warning systems, and long-term environmental observation from leading South African institutions like SANSA, CSIR, HSRC, and SAEON.

• UNESCO and UN-SPIDER: The programme includes presentations from UNESCO's DRR programme and the UN-SPIDER Bonn Office, providing a global perspective on leveraging space-based information for DRR in Africa.
