IRDR and Partners Call for Poster Abstracts: 6th Asia Pacific Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (APSTCDRR 2027)
08 October 2026

IRDR, in collaboration with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program, the South Asia Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes, and other partners, is now accepting poster abstracts for the upcoming 6th Asia Pacific Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (APSTCDRR 2027) to be held during the period 9-11 March 2027 at the Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan under the theme "Science, Technology, Innovation for Policy and Action Integration in a Complex Risk Landscape".

This premier regional platform brings together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society to strengthen the integration of science, technology, and innovation (STI) into disaster risk reduction (DRR) across the Asia-Pacific region.

Set against the backdrop of increasing climate-related, technological, and cascading risks, APSTCDRR 2027 emphasizes the urgent need to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge, policy uptake, and practical implementation. As the final conference before the conclusion of the Sendai Framework period, it serves as a critical milestone toward 2030 and will directly inform the 2027 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Sendai.

Key Objectives

APSTCDRR 2027 aims to assess progress made since 2015, promote risk-informed policymaking, foster science-policy-practice interfaces, and advance inclusive, demand-driven innovation. It will also explore emerging technologies and support collaboration across disciplines to contribute to broader agendas such as climate adaptation and sustainable development.
