Addressing the challenges of natural & human-induced environmental hazards
Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is a decade-long research programme co-sponsored by the International Science Council ( merged by International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). It is a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.
To develop trans-disciplinary, multi-sectorial alliances for:in-depth, practical disaster risk reduction research studies, and the implementation of effective evidence-based disaster risk policies and practices.
1.Characterisation of hazard, vulnerability and risk. 2.Effective decision-making in complex and changing risk context. 3.Reducing risk and curbing losses through knowledge-based actions.
To In support of the IRDR Strategic Plan , the Programme is guided by the following mechanisms:Co-Sponsors (ISC, UNDRR),Scientific Committee (SC),International Programme Office (IPO).
