Addressing the challenges of natural & human-induced environmental hazards
Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is a decade-long research programme co-sponsored by the International Science Council ( merged by International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). It is a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.

Mission
To develop trans-disciplinary, multi-sectorial alliances for:in-depth, practical disaster risk reduction research studies, and the implementation of effective evidence-based disaster risk policies and practices.
Research Objectives
1.Characterisation of hazard, vulnerability and risk. 2.Effective decision-making in complex and changing risk context. 3.Reducing risk and curbing losses through knowledge-based actions.

To In support of the IRDR Strategic Plan , the Programme is guided by the following mechanisms:Co-Sponsors (ISC, UNDRR),Scientific Committee (SC),International Programme Office (IPO).
Elements

The report has been produced by the ISC as part of an official midterm review by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) of the Sendai Framework, which was agreed in 2015 and set out to reduce the human, economic and social cost of disasters.
